SECOND BABY SHOWER ETIQUETTE

Often there are questions about whether or not a mom expecting her second or subsequent child should have a baby shower. There are some circles that think if you had a baby shower with your first baby, you shouldn’t have another shower for subsequent babies.

However, there are differing opinions about this. An increasing number of people are of the opinion it is perfectly okay and proper to have a baby shower for each pregnancy. After all, each pregnancy is different – and each pregnancy involves the creation of a unique person who deserves to have their own baby shower, their own gifts for being born. It’s very fair!

Here are some gift ideas for a second and subsequent shower:

• Personalized T-shirt for the baby. If the gender of the baby is known a cute little “I’m the Little Sister” – or Brother is nice.
• If the older sibling is still young enough for a stroller, a double stroller makes a very welcome gift.
• Photo albums are always in demand, especially with the addition of another new baby.
• Gift certificates to a photographer or portrait studio.
• Photo frames for the new photos that are sure to be taken.
• Designer diaper bag, which not only benefits the new baby, but mom will be glad to carry it instead of a purse.
• Diapers and wipes are always a welcomed gift. Buy diapers in larger sizes too.
• Pedicure for mom. Since pregnant feet tend to be sore and swollen, a nice pedicure will make mom feel pampered.
• Certificates for baby sitting. This can be done in several ways. Certificates to baby sit the older children while mom takes the new baby to their doctor appointments - or even to watch all the kids for a couple of hours, to give mom a well deserved break.

There are many good reasons to give a shower for each and every pregnancy. Every baby deserves their own little gifts, and just because mom has been through this before – doesn’t mean she won’t very much appreciate it again and again. If anything, she may welcome a time to get together with friends for food and games that gives her a chance to enjoy some “girl time” before the demands of caring for a new baby begin.
